What will your paycheck look like when the paychecks stop?

Here's a strange thing about retirement. You probably know your 401(k) balance down to the dollar. But ask what that balance turns into every month once the paychecks stop, and most people go quiet. That silence is where the worry lives.

This free worksheet closes that gap in about fifteen minutes. What you really live on now, what will really come in later, and the one number in between that your whole plan has to answer for. Just your picture, on one page.

Sound familiar?

If that's you, this was made for you.

What the worksheet shows you

  1. 1. Your real number. Retirement doesn't have to replace your salary. It has to replace what actually hits your checking account, and for most folks that's a smaller, friendlier number than they feared. The worksheet finds yours.
  2. 2. Your floor. What shows up every month on its own, before your savings has to lift a finger.
  3. 3. Your gap. Take-home minus floor. That's the actual job your nest egg was hired to do, and it's where every honest planning conversation starts.

Why a tax license leads

James Paige

I'm James Paige, and I hold two licenses on purpose. I'm an Enrolled Agent, federally licensed to represent taxpayers before the IRS. I'm also a licensed insurance producer. Between them, they cover both sides of a retirement: the tax side and the protection side.

So why does the tax license lead here? Because retirement is a tax problem before it's anything else. When your 401(k) money comes out, whether your Social Security gets taxed, which account you touch first: those decisions can swing a retirement by tens of thousands of dollars, and they get decided before any other conversation even makes sense. That's the order I work in.

I'll always tell you plainly which hat I've got on. This page and this worksheet are the tax side. Education only.

Based in Maryland, and the tax side works with families nationwide.

How we do business, in writing

Most firms keep their rules in a drawer. I'd rather hang mine on the wall, so you can hold me to them:

  • 1.No countdown timers. No fake scarcity. Ever.
  • 2.One invitation, not seven phone calls.
  • 3.I show the worst decade before the best one.
  • 4.You'll always know which hat I'm wearing.
  • 5.If we're not the right fit, I'll say so first.
  • 6.Everything I teach is yours to keep, no purchase required.
  • 7.Leaving is easy. One click, no guilt.
